Has the Ford F-150 battery specification changed by year?
| Model years | Group size | CCA | Type | Location |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2021–2025 | Group H6 (Group 48) AGM, H7 (94R) on PowerBoost/upper trims | 760 CCA | AGM required | Engine bay, driver side |

Each row links to the full specification for that generation, including trim-by-trim breakdowns and the part numbers. Where engines within a generation differ, that page separates them.
Full specifications by generation
The battery on a Ford F-150 is set by its generation, not its model year, so each generation has one page carrying the complete figures, part numbers and fitment notes for every year it covers.

Ford F-150 battery: common questions
What size battery does a Ford F-150 take?
- BCI group H6 (Group 48) AGM, H7 (94R) on PowerBoost/upper trims, rated at 760 cold cranking amps from the factory. Group size is a physical dimension and terminal-position standard, so a battery from a different group may not clamp down or may put the terminals on the wrong side.
How many CCA does a Ford F-150 need?
- At least 760 CCA. Going higher is harmless and helps in cold climates; going lower is how a vehicle that started fine in October stops starting in January.
Does the Ford F-150 need an AGM battery?
- Yes. This vehicle requires AGM, not flooded. A flooded battery in a start-stop system is cycled far harder than it is designed for and fails early.
Where is the battery on a Ford F-150?
- Engine bay, driver side.
Does a Ford F-150 need the battery registered after replacement?
- Effectively all 14th-gen trucks ship with AGM (H6 ~760 CCA or H7 ~850 CCA) because Auto Start-Stop and heavy electronics are standard, match what's installed and stay AGM. H7 is the largest size that fits the standard tray. After replacement, perform a BMS reset (FORScan/scan tool or dealer); otherwise the truck may show battery warnings and kill the new battery early with stale charge logic. Frequent OTA-update and phone-as-key background drain complaints on early builds were addressed by software updates.
