Has the Toyota Highlander battery specification changed by year?
| Model years | Group size | CCA | Type | Location |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2020–2025 | Group H6 (LN3) EFB | N/A | EFB | Engine bay, driver side |
| 2014–2019 | Group 24F | 582 CCA | FLOODED | Engine bay, driver side |
| 2012–2013 | Group 24F | 582 CCA | FLOODED | Engine bay, driver side |
Each row links to the full specification for that generation, including trim-by-trim breakdowns and the part numbers. Where engines within a generation differ, that page separates them.
Full specifications by generation
The battery on a Toyota Highlander is set by its generation, not its model year, so each generation has one page carrying the complete figures, part numbers and fitment notes for every year it covers.
Toyota Highlander battery: common questions
What size battery does a Toyota Highlander take?
- BCI group H6 (LN3) EFB. Group size is a physical dimension and terminal-position standard, so a battery from a different group may not clamp down or may put the terminals on the wrong side.
Does the Toyota Highlander need an AGM battery?
- The factory battery is an EFB type. Match the type when you replace it.
Where is the battery on a Toyota Highlander?
- Engine bay, driver side.
Does a Toyota Highlander need the battery registered after replacement?
- Gas models have stop-start; Toyota specifies an H6 (LN3) EFB, replace with an EFB or AGM of the same size, not a plain flooded battery, or stop-start and battery life suffer. The Toyota chart covers the 2020+ V6 explicitly; the 2023+ 2.4T uses the same H6 fitment. Hybrids use a trunk-mounted H5 AGM instead (see hybrid engine entry).
