Ford Escape battery: common questions
What size battery does a Ford Escape take?
- BCI group 48 (H6). Group size is a physical dimension and terminal-position standard, so a battery from a different group may not clamp down or may put the terminals on the wrong side.
Does the Ford Escape need an AGM battery?
- The factory battery is an EFB type. Match the type when you replace it.
Where is the battery on a Ford Escape?
- Engine bay (gas models); under cargo floor on hybrid/PHEV.
Does a Ford Escape need the battery registered after replacement?
- Gas models have auto start-stop, so the factory battery is an enhanced flooded (EFB) Group 48/H6, replace with an EFB or, better, an AGM of the same H6 size (e.g. Motorcraft BAGM-48H6-760); a plain flooded battery will die early under stop-start cycling. After replacement, drive normally, the BMS relearns; no scan-tool registration is strictly required, but some shops perform a battery-monitor reset.
