Has the Toyota RAV4 battery specification changed by year?
| Model years | Group size | CCA | Type | Location |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2019–2025 | Group 47 (H5/LN2), 2019–2020; 48 (H6/LN3), from ~2021 | N/A | EFB | Engine bay, driver side |
| 2013–2018 | Group 35 | 490 CCA | FLOODED | Engine bay, driver side |
Each row links to the full specification for that generation, including trim-by-trim breakdowns and the part numbers. Where engines within a generation differ, that page separates them.
Full specifications by generation
The battery on a Toyota RAV4 is set by its generation, not its model year, so each generation has one page carrying the complete figures, part numbers and fitment notes for every year it covers.
Toyota RAV4 battery: common questions
What size battery does a Toyota RAV4 take?
- BCI group 47 (H5/LN2), 2019–2020; 48 (H6/LN3), from ~2021. Group size is a physical dimension and terminal-position standard, so a battery from a different group may not clamp down or may put the terminals on the wrong side.
Does the Toyota RAV4 need an AGM battery?
- The factory battery is an EFB type. Match the type when you replace it.
Where is the battery on a Toyota RAV4?
- Engine bay, driver side.
Does a Toyota RAV4 need the battery registered after replacement?
- Gas models: early XA50s shipped with a DIN Group 47 (H5) battery; by 2021 the factory fit was the larger Group 48 (H6). The tray has two hold-down positions, so either size fits most years. Match your old battery or go H6 for more capacity. Cars with Stop & Start should get an EFB or AGM, not a basic flooded battery. Hybrid and Prime use different batteries (see engine entries).
