Specifications for the 2025 Model Y

These specifications are shared across every Model Y of the 2nd generation ('Juniper' refresh) generation. See the 2025 Tesla Model Y overview for the full picture, or the Tesla Model Y guide to compare every generation.

What changed for the 2025 Tesla Model Y

  • 2025US Juniper deliveries began March 2025 with the loaded Launch Series (LR AWD); standard Long Range AWD and RWD followed mid-year. Note: some legacy-body cars were also sold as early 2025 models. Check the front end (full-width light bar = Juniper). Performance (21-in Arachnid 2.0, ~460 hp) and the decontented Standard trim arrived October 2025 as 2026 models.

Known problems with the 2025 Tesla Model Y

3 of the 3 issues we track for the 2025–2025 generation are documented against the 2025 model year, and 2 carry a recall or service bulletin.

  • Rearview/backover camera computer recall (software)

    moderateNHTSA 25V-002

A computer circuit-board failure could prevent the rearview camera image from displaying, increasing backing-crash risk. Tesla addressed it with a software remedy (and hardware replacement where the board had already failed) under recall 25V-002, which includes 2023–2025 Model Y among other models. Check the VIN, most cars were fixed over the air.

Typical cost: Free under recall (OTA software; hardware replaced if failed)

  • Missing certification label recall

    minorNHTSA 26V-315

Certain 2025–2026 Model Y vehicles left the factory without the required certification label on the door pillar, a compliance defect rather than a mechanical one. Tesla mails or installs the label free of charge.

    Typical cost: Free under recall

  • First-year refresh teething issues (soft note)

    minor

Early Juniper builds drew scattered owner complaints rather than defect findings: overly sensitive camera-based auto wipers, occasional infotainment/light-bar software glitches fixed by OTA updates, and the usual delivery-inspection items (trim alignment, door seals). Build quality is broadly reported as much better than early 2020–2021 cars, but a careful delivery inspection is still worthwhile.

Typical cost: N/A (OTA updates / warranty adjustments)

About the Tesla Model Y

The Tesla Model Y is the compact electric crossover that became the world's best-selling vehicle in 2023, and for owners it is a maintenance oddity: no oil changes, no spark plugs, no transmission service, but tires, wipers, cabin filters, and the low-voltage battery still wear out, and the tires wear fast because the car weighs about 4,400 lbs and makes instant torque. The original body (2020–2024) launched with Long Range AWD and Performance versions, added a short-lived Standard Range RWD in early 2021, a Texas-built 4680-cell Standard Range AWD in 2022–2023, and an RWD base model for 2024. Early cars (through late 2021) use a conventional 12V lead-acid battery that commonly dies in 2–4 years; later cars switched to a long-lived Tesla-proprietary ~16V lithium-ion unit.

The heavily revised 'Juniper' Model Y arrived for 2025 with new suspension, a light-bar front end, and mostly carried-over service items. Recalls have been frequent but most are over-the-air software fixes; the ones that need a shop visit are the early suspension/seat-belt/brake-caliper fastener recalls and the 2022–2023 steering-wheel fastener recall. Owners look things up here mostly for tire sizes and pressures per wheel option (19-inch Gemini, 20-inch Induction, staggered 21-inch Überturbine), 12V battery type by build date, and the two-filter cabin air filter replacement.
