What changed for the 2025 Honda CR-V

  • 2025Largely carryover; steering gearboxes built after Aug 30, 2024 include the sticky-steering fix from the factory

Known problems with the 2025 Honda CR-V

3 of the 4 issues we track for the 2023–2025 generation are documented against the 2025 model year, and 2 carry a recall or service bulletin.

  • 'Sticky' steering, steering gearbox recall

majorNHTSA 24V-744 (Honda sticky-steering recall); earlier Honda TSB replaced complete gearboxes

Owners reported the steering momentarily sticking or catching around center, needing extra effort to initiate a turn, worst at highway speed. NHTSA opened an investigation, Honda first issued a gearbox-replacement TSB, then recalled ~1.7 million vehicles (2023–2025 CR-V among them, NHTSA 24V-744): an improperly made worm wheel plus an over-preloaded worm-gear spring raises internal friction. The recall remedy is a new worm gear spring and grease redistribution, free at any Honda dealer; gearboxes built after Aug 30, 2024 have the fix. If your car still sticks after the recall work, push for a gearbox replacement under warranty.

    Typical cost: Free under recall

  • Hybrid high-pressure fuel pump cracks, fuel leak recall

    majorNHTSA 24V-763

On hybrid models, the engine-mounted high-pressure fuel pump's solenoid core can crack from improper manufacturing, letting fuel leak into the engine bay, a fire risk with a gasoline smell as the warning sign. Part of Honda's ~720,000-vehicle October 2024 recall (2023–2025 CR-V Hybrid, plus Accord and Civic hybrids), NHTSA 24V-763. Dealers inspect and replace the fuel pump free. If you smell gas, park it outside and get it in immediately.

    Typical cost: Free under recall

  • 12V battery drain / dead after short parking periods

    moderate

A steady stream of 6th-gen owner reports (gas and hybrid) describe dead 12V batteries after the car sits days, modules not sleeping, telematics/HondaLink activity, and marginal factory batteries all implicated. Honda has released software updates for several control units; dealers test and replace weak batteries under the 3-yr/36k warranty. Out of warranty: update software, load-test, and replace with a quality battery of the correct group (47/H5 gas, 51R hybrid).

Typical cost: Free under warranty; $150–$250 battery afterward

About the Honda CR-V

The Honda CR-V is one of America's best-selling compact SUVs, and the 2012–2025 span covers three generations with very different powertrains under a familiar shape. 4L (K24W9) and a CVT for 2015–2016, a change that brought better mpg along with widely reported idle-vibration complaints, and the K24's classic cold-start VTC actuator rattle. 0L two-motor hybrid arrived for 2020.

0L hybrid roughly half of sales; its headline issues are the 'sticky steering' recall (24V-744) and a hybrid fuel pump recall (24V-763). 3 bolt pattern with 80 ft-lb lug torque, CR2032 smart-key batteries, and Honda's Maintenance Minder deciding service timing instead of a fixed mileage chart. CVT models take Honda HCF-2 fluid only. Do not substitute regular ATF or generic 'multi-vehicle' CVT fluid.
