High confidence
  1. Turn the ignition to ON (II) without starting the engine (push-button cars: press START twice without touching the brake)
  2. Press the SEL/RESET button (steering wheel or instrument-stalk knob) repeatedly until the Engine Oil Life display appears
  3. Press and hold SEL/RESET for about 10 seconds until the oil life indicator and maintenance code(s) begin to blink
  4. Release, then press and hold SEL/RESET again for about 5 seconds, the display resets to 100% and the codes clear

This clears the Maintenance Minder main code (A/B) and sub-codes (1, 2, 3…) together, so only reset after performing the indicated services. On i-MID-equipped trims you can also reset via the display's Maintenance menu.

2012–2016 Honda CR-V oil life reset: common questions

How do you reset the oil life on a 2012–2016 Honda CR-V?

4 steps, using only the controls in the car, the full sequence is above.

Do you need a scan tool to reset the oil light on a 2012–2016 Honda CR-V?

No. The procedure above uses the vehicle's own controls. A scan tool is only necessary if the reset does not take, which usually points at a different fault.

Why won't the oil light reset on a 2012–2016 Honda CR-V?

Almost always a timing problem in the sequence, a step held too briefly, or the ignition in the wrong position. Repeat it exactly, with the engine off and the key in accessory rather than run, unless the steps say otherwise. This clears the Maintenance Minder main code (A/B) and sub-codes (1, 2, 3…) together, so only reset after performing the indicated services. On i-MID-equipped trims you can also reset via the display's Maintenance menu.
