Has the Ford Fusion battery specification changed by year?
| Model years | Group size | CCA | Type | Location |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2013–2020 | Group 96R | 590 CCA | FLOODED | Engine bay, driver side |
| 2012–2012 | Group 96R | 590 CCA | FLOODED | Engine bay, driver side |
Each row links to the full specification for that generation, including trim-by-trim breakdowns and the part numbers. Where engines within a generation differ, that page separates them.
Full specifications by generation
The battery on a Ford Fusion is set by its generation, not its model year, so each generation has one page carrying the complete figures, part numbers and fitment notes for every year it covers.
Ford Fusion battery: common questions
What size battery does a Ford Fusion take?
- BCI group 96R, rated at 590 cold cranking amps from the factory. Group size is a physical dimension and terminal-position standard, so a battery from a different group may not clamp down or may put the terminals on the wrong side.
How many CCA does a Ford Fusion need?
- At least 590 CCA. Going higher is harmless and helps in cold climates; going lower is how a vehicle that started fine in October stops starting in January.
Does the Ford Fusion need an AGM battery?
- The factory battery is a conventional flooded type. AGM is a valid upgrade, but never downgrade from AGM to flooded.
Where is the battery on a Ford Fusion?
- Engine bay, driver side.
Does a Ford Fusion need the battery registered after replacement?
- Same Group 96R form factor carried over from the first generation; factory-style Motorcraft replacement is BXT96R500. Some later/higher-trim vehicles with start-stop may specify AGM, verify against your original battery's label. Hybrid/Energi models use a separate 12V battery (see hybrid engine entry).
