Known problems with the 2017 Ford Fusion
1 of the 6 issues we track for the 2013–2020 generation is documented against the 2017 model year.
6F35 automatic transmission hesitation and rough shifts
moderateOwners of several model years report occasional hesitation on take-off, flared shifts, or a delayed downshift from the 6F35 6-speed automatic, especially on higher-mileage cars. Ford issued periodic software recalibration TSBs for shift quality; a persistent shudder or slip can indicate fluid degradation or, less commonly, internal wear.
Typical cost: Free (software) to $2,500+ (transmission rebuild/replacement, uncommon)
5 more issues reported in other 2013–2020 years
- 1.6L EcoBoost coolant loss / cracked cylinder head fire risk — 2013-2014 (1.6L EcoBoost only)
- Shift cable bushing failure. Transmission can slip out of Park — 2013-2016 (2.5L with 6F35 automatic)
- Steering gear motor bolt corrosion, loss of power steering assist — 2013-2016
- Door latch failure (multi-model Ford campaign) — 2014-2016 (part of a broader campaign spanning other Fusion and Ford model years)
- MyFord Touch infotainment freezes and slow response (pre-2017) — 2013-2016

About the Ford Fusion
The Ford Fusion is a mid-size sedan that Ford sold in the US from 2006 through 2020, when the whole car segment was sacrificed to the SUV boom. This file covers 2012, the last model year of the original 2006-body Fusion, through 2020, the CD4-generation's final year. 5L hybrid; its main documented weak spot is an electric power-assisted steering (EPAS) module that can suddenly cut out (recall 15V-340).
5L automatics could let the transmission slip out of Park (19V-362, expanded 22V-413), and corroded steering-gear motor bolts could kill power steering assist (19V-632), on top of a huge multi-model Ford door-latch campaign. 7L EcoBoost V6 Sport with standard AWD. Across the CD4 years the bolt pattern is 5x108, the key fob takes a CR2032, and the 6F35 automatic and electric power steering are shared by nearly every engine. Ford ended US Fusion production after the 2020 model year.
