What changed for the 2025 Chevrolet Equinox

  • 2025Generation launch: updated 175-hp 1.5T (RPO LSD), CVT on FWD / 8T45 8-speed on AWD, trims reduced to LT, RS and ACTIV, 17.7-in touchscreen with Google built-in standard

Known problems with the 2025 Chevrolet Equinox

3 of the 3 issues we track for the 2025–2025 generation are documented against the 2025 model year.

  • CVT drivability complaints (FWD models)

    minor

The first CVT in an Equinox drew early complaints about drone, rubber-band acceleration feel, and occasional hesitation from a stop. No defect finding or recall as of mid-2026, most cases are characteristic CVT behavior, with software updates issued for shift feel. Worth a long test drive if you're cross-shopping FWD vs AWD (the AWD 8-speed drives more conventionally).

Typical cost: N/A (software updates under warranty)

  • Infotainment/display glitches

    minor

Early-build owners report the 17.7-inch Google-built-in touchscreen or driver display occasionally freezing, rebooting, or losing wireless CarPlay/Android Auto. Dealers fix with software updates; persistent failures get module replacement under the bumper-to-bumper warranty.

Typical cost: Free under warranty (software update)

  • No safety recalls on the gas model to date

    minor

As of mid-2026 NHTSA lists no safety recalls for the gas 2025 Equinox (recalls reported for the "Equinox EV", such as the pedestrian alert sound campaign, apply to the separate electric model). Check your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls periodically; first-year GM models often accumulate campaigns later.

    Typical cost: N/A

About the Chevrolet Equinox

The Chevrolet Equinox is GM's best-selling crossover, and the 2012–2025 span covers three distinct vehicles with very different reputations. 6L from 2013) avoid that problem but drink more fuel. 5T has its own documented oil-consumption and turbocharger complaints plus a failure-prone mechanical brake-vacuum pump, so checking the dipstick between changes remains an Equinox ownership ritual.

5L turbo with a CVT (FWD) or 8-speed automatic (AWD). Across all years the key points owners look up are simple: dexos1-licensed oil (5W-30 on the older engines, 0W-20 on the turbos), Group 47/48 batteries (AGM once stop/start arrived in 2018), 140 lb-ft lug torque, and a CR2032 fob battery until the 2025 redesign switched to CR2450. Note the bolt pattern changes by generation: 5x120 (2010–2017) to 5x115 (2018 on).
