High confidence- With the vehicle off, press and hold the TRIP (odometer reset) button on the instrument cluster
- While still holding the button, turn the ignition to the ON position (do not start the engine)
- Continue holding for about 5–10 seconds until the maintenance/oil wrench indicator blinks and then resets
- Release the button, then turn the ignition off and restart the vehicle to confirm the light is gone
Classic Mazda trip-meter hold method used on the KE-generation cluster (no touchscreen dependency). If it doesn't reset on the first try, make sure the display was on the odometer/trip screen (not the clock) before switching the ignition off.

2013–2016 Mazda CX-5 oil life reset: common questions
How do you reset the oil life on a 2013–2016 Mazda CX-5?
- 4 steps, using only the controls in the car, the full sequence is above.
Do you need a scan tool to reset the oil light on a 2013–2016 Mazda CX-5?
- No. The procedure above uses the vehicle's own controls. A scan tool is only necessary if the reset does not take, which usually points at a different fault.
Why won't the oil light reset on a 2013–2016 Mazda CX-5?
- Almost always a timing problem in the sequence, a step held too briefly, or the ignition in the wrong position. Repeat it exactly, with the engine off and the key in accessory rather than run, unless the steps say otherwise. Classic Mazda trip-meter hold method used on the KE-generation cluster (no touchscreen dependency). If it doesn't reset on the first try, make sure the display was on the odometer/trip screen (not the clock) before switching the ignition off.
