Some carryover legacy cars were also titled as early 2025s | ## 2020-2024 Tesla Model Y fluids: common questions ### What transmission fluid does a 2020-2024 Tesla Model Y take? Front/rear drive-unit reduction gearboxes use lifetime-fill gear oil, no scheduled change. Transmission fluid specifications are not interchangeable. Friction modifiers differ between them, and the wrong fluid causes shudder long before it causes failure. ### What coolant does a 2020-2024 Tesla Model Y use? Tesla-specific battery/powertrain coolant loop, filled for life, no owner service or top-up (opening the system is a service-center job). ### What brake fluid does a 2020-2024 Tesla Model Y take? DOT 3 brake fluid. Tesla: test for contamination every 4 years, replace as needed. ## Sources - [Tesla Model Y Owner's Manual, Wheels and Tires (sizes, lug torque)](https://www.tesla.com/ownersmanual/modely/en_us/GUID-FDDB10EF-FFA9-46EB-B8CC-03614AE92B6B.html) - [Tesla DIY, Replacing Cabin Air Filters (Model Y)](https://service.tesla.com/docs/Public/diy/modely/en_us/GUID-1C689042-6645-4617-B270-7F2DA9A5624E.html) - [Tesla DIY, Replacing Wiper Blades (Model Y, 26/20 in)](https://service.tesla.com/docs/Public/diy/modely/en_us/GUID-949BFDA4-8D73-43A6-AAA5-98AE1129AC25.html) - [Tesla DIY, Replacing the Low Voltage Lead-Acid Battery (85B24LS 12V 45Ah)](https://service.tesla.com/docs/Public/diy/modely/en_us/GUID-AE762FFF-8268-4BDF-9246-A2BB8D17B0B4.html) - [Tesla Support, Vehicle Maintenance (official intervals)](https://www.tesla.com/support/car-maintenance) - [Tesla Model Y Service Manual, Brakes (rotor diameters)](https://service.tesla.com/docs/ModelY/ServiceManual/en-us/GUID-3B4A23E8-4440-4701-9092-5A3F83639F47.html) - [NHTSA recall lookup, Tesla Model Y 2020-2024 (all campaign numbers)](https://www.nhtsa.gov/vehicle/2021/TESLA/MODEL%252520Y/SUV/AWD) - [Car and Driver, 2020 Model Y Long Range AWD specs (curb weight, towing, hp)](https://www.caranddriver.com/tesla/model-y/specs/2020/tesla_model-y_tesla-model-y_2020) - [Wikipedia, Tesla Model Y (US variant timeline, 4680 AWD, RWD unlock)](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tesla_Model_Y) - [Tesla Shop, Model 3/Y cabin air filter (two required)](https://shop.tesla.com/product/model-3_y-air-filter) ## Other Tesla Model Y generations - [2025 Tesla Model Y fluids](https://whichcarparts.com/cars/tesla/model-y/2025/fluids) Or [compare all generations](https://whichcarparts.com/cars/tesla/model-y/fluids). ## More for the 2020-2024 Tesla Model Y - [Oil & filter](https://whichcarparts.com/cars/tesla/model-y/2020-2024/oil) - [Battery](https://whichcarparts.com/cars/tesla/model-y/2020-2024/battery) - [Tires & wheels](https://whichcarparts.com/cars/tesla/model-y/2020-2024/tires) - [Wiper blades](https://whichcarparts.com/cars/tesla/model-y/2020-2024/wipers) - [Air & cabin filters](https://whichcarparts.com/cars/tesla/model-y/2020-2024/filters) - [Bulbs](https://whichcarparts.com/cars/tesla/model-y/2020-2024/bulbs) - [Brakes](https://whichcarparts.com/cars/tesla/model-y/2020-2024/brakes) - [Service schedule](https://whichcarparts.com/cars/tesla/model-y/2020-2024/service-schedule) - [Problems & reliability](https://whichcarparts.com/cars/tesla/model-y/2020-2024/common-problems) - [Key fob battery](https://whichcarparts.com/cars/tesla/model-y/2020-2024/key-fob-battery) - [Specs](https://whichcarparts.com/cars/tesla/model-y/2020-2024/specs) Specifications vary with engine option, production date, and market.
