## What changed for the 2015 Nissan Rogue

| Years | What changed |
| --- | --- |
| 2015 | Carries over without significant changes from the 2014 redesign, aside from a new push-button Eco mode added to the powertrain |

## Known problems with the 2015 Nissan Rogue

5 of the 6 issues we track for the 2014-2020 generation are documented against the 2015 model year.

### CVT judder, hesitation, and failure (class-action warranty extension) (major)

The T32's JF016E CVT draws the same complaints as its predecessor: shudder/judder from a stop, rubber-band hesitation when merging, whining, overheat power loss, and outright failure. A US class-action settlement (approved 2022) extended the transmission warranty on 2014-2018 Rogues from 60 months/60,000 miles to 84 months/84,000 miles and reimbursed qualifying past repairs. 2019-2020 cars kept the standard 5/60 powertrain warranty. Out of warranty, insist on the updated valve body/TCM calibration before agreeing to a full replacement. Some judder cases are fixable for far less.

Class settlement (BBB AUTO LINE program, 2014-2018 Rogue), 84 mo/84,000 mi CVT warranty extension. Typical cost: Free within 84 mo/84k on 2014-2018; $3,800-$5,500 for CVT replacement out of warranty.

### Under-dash harness connector corrosion (recall) (moderate)

The same salt-water-through-the-carpet failure as the first generation carried into early T32s: the electrical connector for the under-dash harness corrodes, causing shorts, battery drain, and accessory faults. Nissan recalled 2014-2016 Rogues; dealers repair the connector free.

NHTSA 22V-024. Typical cost: Free under recall.

### Jackknife key ignition shut-off (recall) (moderate)

On 2014-2020 Rogues with the folding 'jackknife' style non-Intelligent key, the ignition can be inadvertently knocked out of RUN while driving, killing engine power, power steering assist, and airbag readiness. Dealers modify or replace the key free of charge. Only affects cars without push-button start.

NHTSA 23V-093. Typical cost: Free under recall.

### Weak cabin heat / clogged heater core (moderate)

A very common T32 complaint in cold climates: lukewarm air on the driver's side or overall poor heat, usually from a restricted heater core (debris/sealant in the cooling system) or a stuck blend-door actuator. A back-flush of the heater core fixes many cars; stubborn ones need a new core, which is a big dash-out labor job.

Typical cost: $100-$250 flush; $900-$1,500 heater core replacement.

### Liftgate support struts (recall) and general liftgate sag (minor)

Nissan recalled 2014-2016 Rogues because corroded liftgate support struts could let the gate fall. Outside the recall population, worn struts that won't hold the gate up in cold weather are a routine wear item and an easy 10-minute DIY replacement.

NHTSA 16V-219. Typical cost: Free under recall; $40-$100 for a strut pair DIY.

1 more issue is reported in other 2014-2020 years: Automatic Emergency Braking false activation (phantom braking) (2017-2018).

## Which engines were offered in the 2015 Rogue?

| Engine | Trims | Oil | Oil capacity |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| 2.5L 4-cylinder (QR25DE) | S, SV, SL (all non-hybrid trims; FWD or AWD) | 0W-20 | 4.9 qt |

## About the Nissan Rogue

The Nissan Rogue is Nissan's best-selling US vehicle, a compact crossover whose 2012-2025 run splits into three very different machines with one shared theme: the Xtronic CVT transmission, which is both the Rogue's efficiency trick and its most notorious failure point. 5L QR25DE on 5W-30 with an early Jatco CVT that whines, overheats, and fails often enough that Nissan extended CVT warranties on earlier years, 2012-2013 missed that extension. The T32 (2014-2020) kept the QR25DE but moved to 0W-20 and a newer CVT that still drew a class-action settlement extending coverage to 84 months/84,000 miles on 2014-2018 models; it also added a short-lived Rogue Hybrid (2017-2019) and an AEB system that NHTSA investigated for phantom braking.

5L KR15DDT VC-Turbo three-cylinder, an engine now under two NHTSA recalls (25V-437, 26V-080) for bearing failures, which makes strict 0W-20 synthetic oil service non-negotiable. 3, lug torque stays 83 ft-lbs, the key fob takes a CR2032, and Nissan NS-2/NS-3 CVT fluid (never generic ATF) plus 5,000-mile oil changes are the cheapest insurance a Rogue owner can buy.
