It depends on the engine. The 2.5L SkyActiv-G (PY-VPS) takes 4.8 quarts; The 2.5L SkyActiv-G Turbo takes 5.1 quarts; The 2.2L SkyActiv-D (turbodiesel) takes 5.4 quarts, all figures include a new filter. ### What kind of oil does a Mazda CX-5 take? 0W-20 meeting API SN/SP or ILSAC GF-5/GF-6, full synthetic (required, not merely recommended). Other engines in this vehicle may differ; see the table above. ### Can you use a different viscosity in a Mazda CX-5? The factory specification is 0W-20 and no alternate grade is listed for this engine. Modern variable-valve-timing hardware is sized around the specified viscosity, so substituting a thicker oil is not a free choice. ### How often does a Mazda CX-5 need an oil change? 7,500 mi / 12 months (normal, Schedule 1); 5,000 mi / 6 months (severe, Schedule 2). Short trips, towing, extended idling, and dusty or very cold conditions all put the vehicle on the severe-service side of that interval. ### What oil filter does a Mazda CX-5 take? The OEM filter is Mazda PE01-14-302 (later PE01-14-302B), cartridge. Common equivalents: Fram XG10575, Wix 57062XP, Purolator L14459. ## Sources - [Mazda USA official 2019 CX-5 owner's manual, engine/electrical specifications (battery Ah, spark plug part numbers)](https://www.mazdausa.com/static/manuals/2019/cx5/contents/10020101.html) - [Mazda USA official 2019 CX-5 owner's manual, coolant/lubricant classifications](https://www.mazdausa.com/static/manuals/2019/cx5/contents/10020100.html) - [Mazda USA official 2025 CX-5 owner's manual, scheduled maintenance intervals](https://www.mazdausa.com/static/manuals/2025/cx-5/contents/07020201.html) - [NHTSA recall 18V-426, side curtain air bags](https://api.nhtsa.gov/recalls/recallsByVehicle?make=mazda&model=cx-5&modelYear=2018) - [NHTSA recall 19V-497, PCM software stall](https://api.nhtsa.gov/recalls/recallsByVehicle?make=mazda&model=cx-5&modelYear=2018) - [NHTSA recall 21V-875, low-pressure fuel pump](https://api.nhtsa.gov/recalls/recallsByVehicle?make=mazda&model=cx-5&modelYear=2019) - [NHTSA TSB library, Service Alert SA-041/18 rocker arm inspection (cylinder deactivation)](https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2019/MC-10159203-0001.pdf) - [Mazda Connect Infotainment Settlement, official settlement site (class definition: CX-5 2016-2020)](https://www.mazdainfotainmentsettlement.com/) - [ClassAction.org, 2021 Mazda valve stem seal oil consumption proposed class action](https://www.classaction.org/news/five-2021-mazda-vehicle-models-burn-excessive-oil-due-to-defect-class-action-says) - [CarCostCanada, 2019 CX-5 Signature Diesel road test (168 hp / 290 lb-ft)](https://carcostcanada.com/blog/2019-mazda-cx-5-signature-diesel-road-test/) - [Wikipedia, Mazda CX-5 second generation engine history](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mazda_CX-5) - [Mazda parts forum, PY8W-14-302 turbo oil filter and 5.1 qt fill confirmation](https://mazdas247.com/forum/threads/oil-filter-2-5l-turbo.123872068/) ## Find your exact CX-5 - [2025](https://whichcarparts.com/cars/mazda/cx-5/2025) - [2024](https://whichcarparts.com/cars/mazda/cx-5/2024) - [2023](https://whichcarparts.com/cars/mazda/cx-5/2023) - [2022](https://whichcarparts.com/cars/mazda/cx-5/2022) - [2021](https://whichcarparts.com/cars/mazda/cx-5/2021) - [2020](https://whichcarparts.com/cars/mazda/cx-5/2020) - [2019](https://whichcarparts.com/cars/mazda/cx-5/2019) - [2018](https://whichcarparts.com/cars/mazda/cx-5/2018) - [2017](https://whichcarparts.com/cars/mazda/cx-5/2017) - [2016](https://whichcarparts.com/cars/mazda/cx-5/2016) - [2015](https://whichcarparts.com/cars/mazda/cx-5/2015) - [2014](https://whichcarparts.com/cars/mazda/cx-5/2014) - [2013](https://whichcarparts.com/cars/mazda/cx-5/2013) More Mazda CX-5 guides: - [Battery](https://whichcarparts.com/cars/mazda/cx-5/battery) - [Tires & wheels](https://whichcarparts.com/cars/mazda/cx-5/tires) - [Wiper blades](https://whichcarparts.com/cars/mazda/cx-5/wipers) - [Air & cabin filters](https://whichcarparts.com/cars/mazda/cx-5/filters) - [Bulbs](https://whichcarparts.com/cars/mazda/cx-5/bulbs) - [Brakes](https://whichcarparts.com/cars/mazda/cx-5/brakes) - [Fluids](https://whichcarparts.com/cars/mazda/cx-5/fluids) - [Service schedule](https://whichcarparts.com/cars/mazda/cx-5/service-schedule) - [Problems & reliability](https://whichcarparts.com/cars/mazda/cx-5/common-problems) - [Oil light reset](https://whichcarparts.com/cars/mazda/cx-5/oil-reset) - [Key fob battery](https://whichcarparts.com/cars/mazda/cx-5/key-fob-battery) - [Specs](https://whichcarparts.com/cars/mazda/cx-5/specs) Specifications vary with engine option, production date, and market.
