OEM filter Mopar 68191349AC (MO-349, cartridge, same filter as the WK2 Pentastar). Verified against factory documentation, with change intervals and aftermarket filter equivalents. **Quick answer**: The 2022-2025 Jeep Grand Cherokee (3.6L Pentastar V6) takes 0W-20 full synthetic engine oil, 5 quarts with a filter change (OEM filter Mopar 68191349AC (MO-349, cartridge, same filter as the WK2 Pentastar)). Other engines differ; see the tables below. ## 2022-2025 Jeep Grand Cherokee 3.6L Pentastar V6 oil (Check your manual) | Spec | Value | | --- | --- | | Viscosity | 0W-20 | | Oil standard | Chrysler MS-6395, full synthetic | | Capacity (with filter) | 5 qt / 4.7 L | | Synthetic required | Yes | | OEM filter | Mopar 68191349AC (MO-349, cartridge, same filter as the WK2 Pentastar) | | Change interval | Oil-life monitor, typically 8,000-10,000 mi / 12 months (normal) | Note: WL capacity is reported as 5.0 qt vs the WK2's 6.0 qt for what is nominally the same Pentastar family, likely a running-change/spec update. Confirm on the dipstick before topping off; overfilling by assuming the older 6.0 qt figure is a commonly reported owner mistake. ## 2022-2025 Jeep Grand Cherokee 5.7L HEMI V8 oil (Check your manual) | Spec | Value | | --- | --- | | Viscosity | 0W-20 | | Oil standard | Chrysler MS-6395, full synthetic | | Capacity (with filter) | 7 qt / 6.6 L | | Synthetic required | Yes | | OEM filter | Mopar 68191349AC (MO-349, cartridge, shared with the WL Pentastar, unlike the WK2's spin-on filter) | | Change interval | Oil-life monitor, typically 8,000-10,000 mi / 12 months | Note: The WL HEMI switched to 0W-20 (down from the WK2's 5W-20) and to a cartridge-style filter shared with the Pentastar. Jeep discontinued the V8 from the 2-row Grand Cherokee order books partway through the 2023 model year; it continued in the 3-row Grand Cherokee L into 2024. ## 2022-2025 Jeep Grand Cherokee 2.0L Turbo I4 Plug-In Hybrid (4xe) oil (Check your manual) | Spec | Value | | --- | --- | | Viscosity | 0W-20 | | Oil standard | Chrysler MS-6395, full synthetic | | Capacity (with filter) | 5 qt / 4.7 L | | Synthetic required | Yes | Note: The 4xe still has a conventional engine oil system for its 2.0L turbo four; this is separate from the high-voltage traction battery. Capacity/viscosity aggregated from aftermarket guides, not independently confirmed against an owner's manual. Confirm before your first oil change. ## Which Jeep Grand Cherokee model years does this cover? These oil specifications apply to every Jeep Grand Cherokee built from 2022 through 2025, the WL (5th generation), mid-size 2-row suv (giorgio-derived platform). Nothing in this specification changes between those model years. - [2022 Grand Cherokee](https://whichcarparts.com/cars/jeep/grand-cherokee/2022) - [2023 Grand Cherokee](https://whichcarparts.com/cars/jeep/grand-cherokee/2023) - [2024 Grand Cherokee](https://whichcarparts.com/cars/jeep/grand-cherokee/2024) - [2025 Grand Cherokee](https://whichcarparts.com/cars/jeep/grand-cherokee/2025) ## What changed during the 2022-2025 Jeep Grand Cherokee | Years | What changed | | --- | --- | | 2022 | WL launch: redesigned 2-row Grand Cherokee debuts alongside the continuing WK2 "Grand Cherokee WK"; 3.6L and 5.7L at launch, 4xe plug-in hybrid added as a mid-year addition | | 2023 | Final model year the 5.7L HEMI V8 was orderable in the 2-row Grand Cherokee (continued longer in the 3-row Grand Cherokee L) | | 2024 | 2-row lineup narrows to 3.6L Pentastar and 2.0L turbo 4xe only, no V8, no inline-six Hurricane option on the 2-row model | | 2025 | Carryover year on the 2-row; 4xe lineup expands with more trims | ## 2022-2025 Jeep Grand Cherokee oil: common questions ### How many quarts of oil does a 2022-2025 Jeep Grand Cherokee take? It depends on the engine. The 3.6L Pentastar V6 takes 5 quarts; The 5.7L HEMI V8 takes 7 quarts; The 2.0L Turbo I4 Plug-In Hybrid (4xe) takes 5 quarts, all figures include a new filter. ### What kind of oil does a 2022-2025 Jeep Grand Cherokee take? 0W-20 meeting Chrysler MS-6395, full synthetic, full synthetic (required, not merely recommended). Other engines in this vehicle may differ; see the table above. ### Can you use a different viscosity in a 2022-2025 Jeep Grand Cherokee? The factory specification is 0W-20 and no alternate grade is listed for this engine. Modern variable-valve-timing hardware is sized around the specified viscosity, so substituting a thicker oil is not a free choice. ### How often does a 2022-2025 Jeep Grand Cherokee need an oil change? Short trips, towing, extended idling, and dusty or very cold conditions all put the vehicle on the severe-service side of that interval. ### What oil filter does a 2022-2025 Jeep Grand Cherokee take? The OEM filter is Mopar 68191349AC (MO-349, cartridge, same filter as the WK2 Pentastar). ## Sources - [Jeep Garage forum, "WL V8 no longer an option in 2 Row Grand Cherokee"](https://www.jeepgarage.org/threads/wl-v8-no-longer-an-option-in-2-row-grand-cherokee.241866/) - [Autoevolution, "2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee Drops 5.7L HEMI V8, Grand Cherokee L Still Has It"](https://www.autoevolution.com/news/2023-jeep-grand-cherokee-drops-57l-hemi-v8-grand-cherokee-l-still-has-it-207348.html) - [Car and Driver, 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe Hybrid specs](https://www.caranddriver.com/jeep/grand-cherokee-4xe-2022) - [NHTSA press release, Jeep Wrangler/Grand Cherokee 4xe high-voltage battery "park outside" recall](https://www.nhtsa.gov/press-releases/park-outside-recall-jeep-wrangler-phev) - [NHTSA recall 23V-352, steering intermediate shaft](https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2023/RCLRPT-23V352-5968.PDF) - [NHTSA recall 23V-413, rear coil spring detachment](https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2023/RCLRPT-23V413-6565.PDF) - [Jeep Garage forum, WL ESS (Stop/Start) auxiliary battery location thread](https://www.jeepgarage.org/threads/grand-cherokee-wl-ess-stop-start-system-battery-location.245932/) - [Cabral CDJR, How to Change the Battery on a Jeep Grand Cherokee (2025 model, under passenger/driver seat)](https://www.cabralchryslerjeepdodge.com/blog/how-to-change-the-battery-on-a-jeep-grand-cherokee) - [Fontana CDJR, Jeep Grand Cherokee Oil Type & Capacity Guide (2011-2026)](https://www.fontanacdjr.com/service-department/service-and-parts-tips/jeep-grand-cherokee-oil-type/) - [Reddit r/GrandCherokee, 2025 GC losing 5.7/3.6, 4-cyl turbo/4xe only discussion](https://www.reddit.com/r/GrandCherokee/comments/1cexvv9/2025_gc_losing_57_36_engines/) ## Other Jeep Grand Cherokee generations - [2012-2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee oil](https://whichcarparts.com/cars/jeep/grand-cherokee/2012-2021/oil) Or [compare all generations](https://whichcarparts.com/cars/jeep/grand-cherokee/oil). ## More for the 2022-2025 Jeep Grand Cherokee - [Battery](https://whichcarparts.com/cars/jeep/grand-cherokee/2022-2025/battery) - [Tires & wheels](https://whichcarparts.com/cars/jeep/grand-cherokee/2022-2025/tires) - [Wiper blades](https://whichcarparts.com/cars/jeep/grand-cherokee/2022-2025/wipers) - [Air & cabin filters](https://whichcarparts.com/cars/jeep/grand-cherokee/2022-2025/filters) - [Fluids](https://whichcarparts.com/cars/jeep/grand-cherokee/2022-2025/fluids) - [Service schedule](https://whichcarparts.com/cars/jeep/grand-cherokee/2022-2025/service-schedule) - [Problems & reliability](https://whichcarparts.com/cars/jeep/grand-cherokee/2022-2025/common-problems) - [Oil light reset](https://whichcarparts.com/cars/jeep/grand-cherokee/2022-2025/oil-reset) - [Key fob battery](https://whichcarparts.com/cars/jeep/grand-cherokee/2022-2025/key-fob-battery) - [Specs](https://whichcarparts.com/cars/jeep/grand-cherokee/2022-2025/specs) Specifications vary with engine option, production date, and market.
