# 2022-2025 Honda Civic Battery Size (BCI Group and CCA)

The 2022-2025 Honda Civic uses a BCI group 51R battery rated at 410 cold cranking amps. Fitment, replacement notes, and what to check before you buy.

**Quick answer**: The 2022-2025 Honda Civic uses a Group 51R battery, 410 CCA.

## 2022-2025 Honda Civic battery specifications (High confidence)

| Spec | Value |
| --- | --- |
| BCI group size | 51R |
| Cold cranking amps | 410 CCA |
| Battery type | FLOODED |
| AGM required | No |
| Location | Engine bay, driver side |

Note: Gas models (2.0L, 1.5T, Si, Type R) continue with the Group 51R (~410 CCA factory; 425-500 CCA replacements common). 2025 Hybrid uses a different under-hood 12V battery. See the hybrid engine entry.

## 2.0L Hybrid (Atkinson-cycle 2.0L + two-motor e:CVT) battery (Check your manual)

| Spec | Value |
| --- | --- |
| BCI group size | 12V auxiliary battery (under hood). Size differs from gas models' 51R |
| Battery type | FLOODED |
| Location | Engine bay (jump-start posts under the hood); high-voltage lithium-ion pack is separate, under the rear seat area |

Note: The hybrid's small 12V battery starts the electronics, not the engine, a dead 12V strands the car even with a full HV pack. Match the original battery's size/terminal layout when replacing; parts lookups differ from the gas cars' Group 51R, so buy by VIN.

## Which Honda Civic model years does this cover?

These battery specifications apply to every Honda Civic built from 2022 through 2025, the 11th generation (FE/FL), compact sedan and hatchback. Nothing in this specification changes between those model years.

## What changed during the 2022-2025 Honda Civic

| Years | What changed |
| --- | --- |
| 2022 | Generation launch: sedan and hatchback (no coupe). Si returns at 200 hp, 6MT only. |
| 2023 | Type R FL5 arrives: 315 hp, 265/30ZR19 tires, still 0W-20 oil and a 5.7-qt sump |
| 2025 | Facelift. 1.5T EX/Touring replaced by the 200-hp two-motor hybrid (Sport Hybrid / Sport Touring Hybrid, 50/47 mpg); LX and Sport keep the 2.0L. Hybrid gets a 10.6-gal tank and an under-hood 12V battery. |

## 2022-2025 Honda Civic battery: common questions

### What size battery does a 2022-2025 Honda Civic take?

BCI group 51R, rated at 410 cold cranking amps from the factory. Group size is a physical dimension and terminal-position standard, so a battery from a different group may not clamp down or may put the terminals on the wrong side.

### How many CCA does a 2022-2025 Honda Civic need?

At least 410 CCA. Going higher is harmless and helps in cold climates; going lower is how a vehicle that started fine in October stops starting in January.

### Does the 2022-2025 Honda Civic need an AGM battery?

The factory battery is a conventional flooded type. AGM is a valid upgrade, but never downgrade from AGM to flooded.

### Where is the battery on a 2022-2025 Honda Civic?

Engine bay, driver side.

### Does a 2022-2025 Honda Civic need the battery registered after replacement?

Gas models (2.0L, 1.5T, Si, Type R) continue with the Group 51R (~410 CCA factory; 425-500 CCA replacements common). 2025 Hybrid uses a different under-hood 12V battery. See the hybrid engine entry.
